Wilson Top Runner, Comet Boys Second In Holden Open

Tuesday’s heat shortened the fifth annual Dave Holden Cross Country Open in Greenville to two miles.   Ashley Holden, daughter of the late Comets Cross Country Coach Dave Holden, attended and spoke prior to the race.

It was a coed race.

The start was moved to 6:40 p.m.  due to that heat.

Wynn Wilson of the Comets was the top runner in the race, placing first with a time of 10 minutes, 16 seconds. It was his personal best time in a two-mile run.

The Comets finished second as a team, behind Litchfield.  The Panthers had an outstanding score of 21 points, and Greenville High finished with 65.  There were 46 boys in the race.

Other finishes for GHS runners included Jackson Swalley 13th, Evan Laughlin 20th, Will Schneck 23rd, Grady Rogers 32nd, Grady Hessenauer 36th, Alex Laughlin 39th, and Oliver Grandt 42nd.

On the girl’s side, GHS had three runners competing.  Ava File placed 19th overall to lead the Lady Comets with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds.

Rylee Smith finished 23rd overall and Ava Scott was 24th.

A total of 29 girls ran in the race.
