Community Partners: Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation

Click below to hear our Public Affairs program featuring Patti Brooks with the LRCF:

The Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation is a community effort to support our neighbors who are battling cancer. Lemuel Rhodes, a long time Bond County resident, lost his brother to cancer and his own life to the disease in 2002. In his will, Lem provided from proceeds from part of his trust to be used to help Bond County residents, suffering from cancer, and to offer resources as they sought treatment.

Through a confidential application process, individuals may apply for assistance to help with items, medical bills, not covered by insurance, assistance with lodging and travel and treatment, specially fitted garments, and other necessary items.

It takes many many volunteers through out the year, here are some pictures from this years events and fundraisers.

Each year WGEL Radio hosts a celebrity pie auction and the community always rallies to raise money for the LRCF, either as bakers or bidders.  This year was no different, full details are below from this year’s pie auction.

WGEL’s annual Great Celebrity Pie Auction is in the books for 2025, as is the Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation’s Night to Celebrate and Remember. We’ll share more information from that event soon, but we wanted to take a moment to recognize everyone involved – in any way – with WGEL’s pie auction this year.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised $20,235, to benefit the LRCF!

We’d like to thank this year’s pie bakers:
