November’s Community Partners is the Bond County Amvets. Post Senior Vice Commander Tony Koonce and Commander Lynn Craig talked with us about who can join AMVETS. They said anyone who has served in the military and received an honorable discharge is eligible to join, regardless of branch or length of service — and veterans can belong to multiple organizations. They say their post is powered by a small but dedicated group committed to serving veterans, the community, and local schools. Programs include memorial services and brick dedications, a scholarship fund, donations to the Bond County Food Bank, the Trees for Troops program, and an annual barbecue that helps fund their efforts.
