Council Approves Library Roof Funds & Revolving Loan For Sweetest Things

During the regular Greenville City Council meeting, matching funds were approved for the Greenville Public Library to help replace their roof. Councilman Mike Heath shared the library’s plan to use a metal roof on the dome to restore the dome to its original look. The life of the roof will be between 50-60 years. The council voted to match the $13,500 the library has obtained from the state. The city’s money will come from the downtown TIF district and is issued through the Downtown Improvement and Renovation Grant. The total project will cost the library around $62,000.

The council also approved a revolving loan fund recommendation for the Sweetest Things on the Greenville Square. The loan amount of $29,982 was approved to help the Sweetest Things expand their business. The council also approved a Class D Liquor License for Kahuna’s Restaurant on Harris Avenue. In new business City Manager Dave Willey told the council that the sidewalks planned for Dewey Street could be moved to Hena Street and the street will not need to be narrowed to accommodate the sidewalks.
