County Board Covers Wide Variety Of Topics

It was a cold meeting of the Bond County Board Tuesday.  Board Chairman Howard Elmore said the temperature in the upper level of the courthouse was only 48 degrees.  The lower level was a bit warmer, but Elmore noted the boiler in the courthouse was not pumping water and they may need to begin thinking about how to upgrade that very old system, a process Elmore said would be very costly.

The board reported that the County Highway Department currently had one of their trucks stuck in a ditch, but otherwise had fared well in cleaning up after Sunday’s winter storm.

County Clerk Randy Reitz commented that the processing of coal rights seem to be getting on a roll.  Reitz said the title company is processing the applications and turning them over to State’s Attorney Chris Bauer, adding that applicants who have waited patiently should begin receiving notices.

The board voted 3 to 2 to appoint David Goodall to fill the remainder of Debbie Whicker’s term on the Bond County Housing Authority Board.  Howard Elmore and Wes Pourchot cast the “no” votes.  The board also accepted a letter of resignation from Dennis Warren as the resident representative on the Housing Authority Board.  Residents will be asked to elect a replacement for Warren.
