Dust Storm Hits Carlinville Casues Multiple Accidents

A rare dust stormed formed in Macoupin County on Friday around 1PM.  According to Illinois State Police high winds and dry fields created a dust storm that left nearly zero visibility on Route 108 just west of Carlinville.

A state trooper on his way to help a motorist that h ad driven off the road in the dust storm was rear ended when he reduced his speed.  Shortly after that the trooper was rear ended by another vehicle.  The trooper, whose name was not released, was taken to Staunton hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Route 108 was closed until the wind died down.
