Fire Chief Shares Importance Of Yielding To Blue Lights

Greenville Fire Chief Bill Johnston recently talked with us about the importance of yielding to vehicles with blue emergency lights driven by volunteer firefighters.

“People look back and say, ‘Oh, they’re just a blue light… I’m not pulling over for that’,” Johnston said. “Just keep in mind, hopefully we’re not going to your house.”

While yielding to drivers with rotating or flashing blue emergency lights is voluntary, Johnston said volunteer firefighters use those lights when driving to the fire department or rescue scene after receiving an emergency call where just a few moments can make a difference.
