The mother of a seven-year-old girl who was stabbed to death by her uncle is going to jail for lying about the crime.
Ciara DeRyke of Effingham pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for claiming she had seen her daughter Willow Long on September 8th of last year, even though she knew the child was already dead.
DeRyke’s brother, Justin DeRyke, allegedly told police he killed the child the day before to put her out of her misery after she’d fallen and a stick had pierced her neck. His murder trial is set to begin next month.
Ciara DeRyke was sentenced to 120 days in jail, but with credit for time served will be released next month.
