County fairs throughout Illinois are joining forces to determine just how much of an impact the fairs have on the local economy. Mercer County Fair Board President Roger Grundstrom says having a dollar amount will be helpful when it comes to planning.
“You know, it’s nice to have a dollar amount when you’re talking budgets and you’re looking to possibly, hopefully, in the future get an increase in some funding,” said Grundstrom. “…and it’s nice to be able to put a dollar amount with what the county fair does for each of the communities.”
Grundstrom says all of the fairs are chipping in to get an economic impact study. The University of Illinois Extension will conduct the study. They’ll select a cross section of small, large, rural, and urban fairs to gather the results. The study will take place over the next year.
