Vandalia Prison On Lockdown For Flu Activity

The Vandalia Correctional Center was placed on Level 1 Lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to two diagnosed cases of the flu. According to the Department of Corrections, three inmates showed flu-like symptoms. Two tested positive for H1N1 flu and one tested negative.

Two areas of the Vandalia prison are currently quarantined and inmates testing positive for the flu are housed in separate areas from the general population.

33 cases of the flu have been confirmed throughout the Illinois Department of Corrections. The DOC says they’re doing everything possible to keep those numbers low.  Five prisons in the state are currently on lockdown.

All inmates are given flu shots upon entering the prison system, but are given the option to decline.
