2014 Polar Plunge Raises $116,000 For Special Olympics

Over 413 people took the polar plunge into Carlyle Lake last Saturday to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. The event raised over $116,000 for the 1,150 individuals with intellectual disabilities, participating in 10 counties in Southwestern Illinois.

St. Louis Rams Pro Bowler Johnny Hekker led the charge into the frigid Carlyle Lake Saturday. Hekker’s team raised over $5,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.

John Becker of Bartelso received his 11th consecutive win for Most Money Raised by an Individual. The Bartelso Fire Department took home Most Money Raised by a Team. The Centralia Police Department swept the Law Enforcement award categories. Dupo High School was the winner in all school categories.
