Fiery Semi Crash On Interstate 70

Illinois State Police responded to a two-vehicle accident that left a semi truck in flames on eastbound I-70 between Mulberry Grove and Vandalia Wednesday afternoon.

Mulberry Grove Firefighters, Bond County EMS personnel, and Illinois State Police Officers responded Wednesday, at 1:14 p.m., to an accident on Interstate 70 in the eastbound lanes at the 55 mile marker, about three miles east of Mulberry Grove.  According to information from the Illinois State Police, a semi-truck, driven by Charles Lawson, age 59, of Gary, Indiana, was parked on the right shoulder.

Another semi-truck, driven by John R. Jones, age 55, of Canton, Texas, struck the Lawson semi in the rear.  Jones’ truck went into the ditch, came back onto the shoulder, and caught fire.  EMS took Jones and Lawson to Fayette County Hospital for treatment.  Jones was cited for alleged failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage.  Lawson was cited for alleged improper parking.
