GFPD Provided Same Number Of Assists As Received In 2013

The Greenville Fire Protection District discussed mutual aid at their recent annual appreciation banquet. Their records showed the district provided the same number of mutual assists as they received in 2013.

“We have mutual aid with the people here in the county, and it was exactly even this year. We received mutual aid 24 times and we gave mutual aid 24 times,” Fire Chief Bill Johnston told WGEL. “As far as I’m concerned, I like that. It’s just the way the fire service is anymore …We have less and less firefighters so we’re more dependent on our neighbors.”

Johnston said one of the most memorable moments of the year was assisting Smithboro with a train derailment.
