National FFA Week officially begins this year on February 15 and runs through February 22. Greenville High School’s FFA Chapter has big plans for the week. FFA Advisor Steve Zimmerman told us about the purpose of FFA Week and about some of their plans.
“It’s just to give a chance for students to be recognized and to do different activities to recognize the FFA and the importance of agriculture here in our state in the United States,” Zimmerman said. “Thursday we have our barnyard zoo, and it will be going on from 8:45 until 2:30, and we’ll have several different species of farm animals here at the shop and we’ll also have some ag literacy activities that the elementary kids will be doing and we usually have about six or seven hundred kids come through.”
Zimmerman said they will also hold the annual work auction with a meal on Thursday evening where FFA members will be auctioned off for an eight-hour day of work. The meal and auction will be held in the high school cafeteria and gym.
