Greenville Junior High Names Spelling Bee Winner

Greenville Junior High held its annual Scripps National Spelling Bee school competition Tuesday where Sam Blankenship was named the winner. Sam is the seventh-grade son of Richard and Angella Blankenship of Greenville. The runner-up was Evan Oakley, seventh-grade son of Ernie and Alicia Oakley of Greenville. After ten rounds and 72 words spelled, Sam correctly spelled the word “confidence” for the win.

Sam will compete in the Bond-Fayette-Effingham Spelling Bee Friday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mulberry Grove Elementary School gymnasium. Winners there will advance to the regional spelling bee in Decatur this March.
