The Madison County Coroner’s Office is investigating three separate deaths that occurred late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Heroin usage is suspected in each of the deaths.
29-year-old Katie L. Heavey of Collinsville was discovered Thursday at 9:20 p.m. at her home by her father. Intravenous drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. She was pronounced dead at her residence at 9:45 p.m.
At 12:31 a.m. Friday morning, 38-year-old Dearold W. Oseland was found at his home in Roxana by his girlfriend, also with drug paraphernalia present. He was pronounced dead at the residence at 1:40 a.m.
Just before 2:00 a.m. Friday morning, the coroner’s office was paged to respond to the death of 40-year-old Paul J. Simpson of Granite City. Simpson was pronounced dead at his home at 2:49 a.m. Evidence of drug usage was found at the scene.
Autopsies were performed in each incident. Heavey’s autopsy determined no violence or trauma had occurred, but autopsies on Oseland and Simpson were inconclusive. Toxicology tests are pending in each case.
