Shimkus Supports Farm Bill Passage

Congressman John Shimkus voted for the Agricultural Act of 2014, which passed the House Wednesday. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law. The bill contains farm policy reforms including the repeal of Direct Payments, the strengthening of crop insurance and reforms to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, for food stamps. SNAP reforms would aim to eliminate loopholes, prohibit advertising and enrollment drives, eliminate medical marijuana as an eligible expense and allow states to pursue fraud.
