Stoecklin’s Orchard To Hold Hummingbird Festival This June

In the depths of this cold winter, it sometimes helps to look forward to a warmer season. Stoecklin’s Orchard recently announced the date for their 2nd annual Hummingbird Festival. The festival will be held Saturday, June 14 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and will include the opportunity to adopt a hummingbird. Kay Stoecklin told us more about the adoption process.

“It’s a five dollar fee, and the money that’s collected for that ends up going back to the Audubon Society for them to procure more land for habitats, so it does go to a good cause,” Stoecklin said. “For that you receive…a certificate that you adopted a bird. It tells when it was captured, where it was captured, gives you the information that happened that day. After that, if the bird is ever recaptured again, you’ll get a letter in the mail stating where it was recaptured and any changing information as far as how it grew and that kind of thing.”

Stoecklin said she expects to see a lot of hummingbirds this year and hopes to see many new faces at the festival.

Stoecklin’s Orchard is located about 3 miles southeast of Donnellson, IL. For more information about the festival, call the orchard at 217-537-3801.
