Thunderstorms Move Through Area Thursday Evening

A line of thunderstorms moved through the area Thursday evening. Strong winds and heavy rains hit Greenville and there were severe thunderstorm warnings for the entire WGEL listening area and most of Illinois. There were tornado warnings in Fayette County and the Springfield area. There was some light roof damage in Greenville and some reports of limbs down. Power lines were reported down in Highland.

Mulberry Grove Firefighters responded Thursday, at 4:51 p.m., to a report of a transformer on fire on Seventh Street and Greenville Firefighters were called Thursday, at 6:00 p.m., to a report of a power pole down on Woodlawn. A power outage in the Mulberry Grove area nocked out electricity for about four hours from around 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Here at the WGEL studios in downtown Greenville, we measured 1.4 inches of rain. At the Sewer Plant they recorded 38 hundredths of an inch and half an inch at the station on Sixth Street and also at Idler Lane and Rt. 140.
