It’s National Flood Safety Week and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is warning people about the risks of driving through standing water. Spokesperson Patti Thompson says that’s what causes most of the deaths associated with flooding in Illinois. She says drivers often underestimate how deep or how fast the water is moving. But, Thompson says drivers can be swept away in as little as two feet of water. She says drivers should always remember to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” when they see a flooded roadway.
