Famous naturalist Eustace Conway will be the keynote speaker at the Owl Creek Gazette Self-Reliance Expo on Saturday, March 15 at First United Methodist Church in Greenville. Conway is the founder of Turtle Island Preserve in North Carolina. He told us more about Turtle Island’s camp programs.
“We also have family camps so any family in the country can sign up and join with other families or gather together several families that you might want to bring together,” Conway told WGEL. “We’re very flexible with our programming. We try to accommodate anybody’s special needs. We have summer camp for boys, summer camp for girls. We have adult camps, we have special interest type of subjects, like we have a blacksmithing workshop coming up and we have a hide tanning workshop coming up.”
Conway said they offer a wide variety of camps that all tie back to the self-reliance and the natural environment. The Self-Reliance Expo will run from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with Conway to speak at 1:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.owlcreekgazette.com.
