At their meeting this week, the Mulberry Grove Board of Education decided to buy a new school van. After considering the cost of repairing the current van which has many miles and comparing used and new vans, the board voted to purchase a new 2014 Dodge Caravan from Hosick Motors for $21,234 at 0% interest for 60 months.
Superintendent Mike Gauch reported general state aid payments are coming in regularly but the district has received only one categorical state aid payment for transportation. The education fund is nearing the area where about one month of salary payments remain and Gauch recommended the board approve the sale of bonds to finance the district until fall when county tax money starts coming in. The board approved the issuance of $370,000 in working cash fund bonds. Details will be finalized at the April board meeting.
High School math teacher Laura Wesselmann presented a program called “Flipping the Classroom.” The new concept allows students to work on assignments and worksheets in class and view lectures at home using the internet with tablets and smart phones.
All certified and non-certified employees were re-hired for the 2014-2015 school year.
The board approved Dave Clark and Trevor Suess as volunteer assistant coaches for the spring 2013-2014 baseball season.
