Police Chief Offers Tips In Wake Of Abduction Attempts

An abduction attempt was reported in Alton Wednesday, bringing the total number of such claims in the St. Louis and Metro East area to four since the beginning of March.

Greenville Police Chief Lou Lorton shared with WGEL some common-sense safety tips that parents should talk about with their children.

“If they’re walking to and from school, hopefully they’re walking with a group of more than one,” said Lorton.  “If they are approached by someone who they do not know, run away.  If they’re followed or pursued, knock on the nearest door.  Go to a trusting adult.  Talk with them.  Talk with parents.  Our community, we believe, is a safe one, and we want to keep it that way.”

Be sure to report any suspicious activity to your local police department or law enforcement agency.
