The Marine Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at Mills Apple Farm between Marine and Grantfork at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. According to Highland-Pierron Fire Chief Steve Plocher, the Alhambra, Grantfork, St. Jacob and Highland-Pierron Fire Departments were all called upon for mutual aid.
Plocher said the barn used to hold produce for the farm caught fire. He said the fire was extinguished around 6:30 a.m. but the barn was a total loss. We received reports that the smoke from the fire could be seen from as far as Bethalto.
No information regarding what may have caused the fire has been released.
