Board Of Health Receives Flu Report, Talks MERS

The Bond County Board of Health discussed nationwide reports of the flu at their recent meeting. Public Health Administrator Mark Ayers reported that flu activity peaked in December and had a second round in March. Vaccine effectiveness was reported at 61 percent. Ayers said the health department’s supply of flu vaccines was exhausted and they have ordered the same amount for next year’s flu season.

Ayers also mentioned the first and second cases of MERS-CoV identified in the United States. He said although it appears the virus has been contained and will not affect Bond County, the health department is prepared to handle the virus if a case were to arise.
