During their meeting Monday, the Bond County Board of Health discussed county health rankings. The health department’s rank improved overall. They were ranked 62nd for 2013 and moved up to 54th for 2014. The Board discussed the statistic that 39 percent of adults in Bond County smoke, according to the report. The report also stated that physical inactivity in adults dropped from 31 percent in 2013 to 30 percent in 2014.
The Board also discussed the free kidney and diabetes screening event coming to the health department on Wednesday, June 11. The Kidneymobile will be at the health department from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to do checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, waist circumference, urinalysis and blood draws if necessary. The event is free and open to the public and does not require fasting. Public Health Administrator Mark Ayers said no appointments are necessary but you must be 18 years or older to participate.
