GHS Band And Choir Receive High Marks At Disney World

The Greenville High School Music Department recently participated in the 10th anniversary Festival Disney competition at Walt Disney World Parks in Orlando, FL. Around 25 schools from across the nation attended.

The concert choir, under the direction of Shawn Cox, received a Superior Rating in the 1A division. There were 70 students in the concert choir representing GHS. The choir, which was second in their division, was only 1.4 points away from receiving the best in class award. Nicholas Watterson received the Best Student Accompanist award out of all of the participating schools.

The concert band, under the direction of Ryan Thomason, received a Good Rating in the 1A Concert Band Division.  There were 58 students in the GHS concert band.

In total, 95 students and 13 adults traveled with the GHS group. The students were also able to experience the Disney parks Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios and watch a performance by The Blue Man Group.
