Hit And Run On Greenville Square

A glimpse at the damage on the southwest corner of the square.

Greenville Police are investigating an alleged hit and run involving a semi on the southwest corner of the square. Witnesses report that around 9:32 a.m. Thursday a semi was attempting to turn right off of College Avenue onto Third Street. Another semi was already turning left onto College Avenue off of Third. Police say the offending semi did not have enough room to make the turn off of College onto Third, but turned anyway. In the process the truck ran over a stop sign, a highway sign, a city trash can, the wrought iron fence outside of the SIUA insurance office, and the SIUA pedestal sign. The truck did not stop following the collision.

Police sent information to other law enforcement agencies in the region, but as of publication time had not heard any further information as to the whereabouts of the semi. No one was injured in the incident Thursday morning.
