The Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation has a new sub-committee that will generate funds to help local cancer patients. The group gathered Saturday morning for a brief ceremony to kick off their fundraising season.
Greenville Mayor Alan Gaffner thanked the group for their efforts and pledged his support and that of the community.
Cancer survivor Becky Blackburn shared her personal story and spoke of the often-unknown costs of fighting cancer, such as fuel, oil changes, and tire maintenance due to traveling to receive treatment; hotel expenses; and loss of overtime and holiday pay.
Through a confidential application process, individuals may apply for assistance from the Lem Rhodes Cancer Foundation to help with those items not covered by insurance.
Teams will raise funds for Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation throughout the spring and summer. Their efforts will culminate in a celebration of life festival on Saturday, September 13.
