Postal carriers across the nation, in partnership with the United States Postal Service, will be participating in the 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 10. USPS Spokesperson Valerie Hughes told it’s easy to donate.
“You can leave a bag of groceries – it can be a can or a whole bag or as much as you want,” Hughes said. “Leave it by the mailbox and we pick it up. Nothing perishable, but we appreciate everything we get. We take it down to the food pantry after we’ve collected it at the end of the day. It helps a lot of people. Over the 21 year past, we’ve collected over a billion pounds of food. We appreciate everybody’s support of they would do that.”
The food drive’s timing is crucial as food banks and pantries receive most of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. By springtime, many pantries are depleted.
