Man Dies In River In Southern Effingham County

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 11, Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey responded to a reported incident in southern Effingham County.

According to a press release from the coroner’s office, a male was seen entering the Little Wabash River in an apparent attempt to recover a boat that was loose from its mooring. Coroner Guffey pronounced the man dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday. The man’s name and further details will be released following notification of family members.

The Effingham County Coroner and Sheriff continue the investigation. The Effingham County Dive and Rescue Team and Watson, Shumway, and Effingham Firefighters assisted at the scene.
