Memorial Day Events In Bond County

The Pocahontas American Legion will hold a memorial service at the Pocahontas Veterans’ Monument on the square at 11:00 a.m. today. The Mulberry Grove American Legion firing squad will also be in attendance on the Pocahontas square. Bring your own lawn chairs if desired.

The Greenville AMVETS Post 140 will hold their annual Memorial Day flag-changing ceremony at the Bond County Veterans Memorial on the courthouse lawn at 9:00 a.m. Four new bricks were added to the memorial this year.

Memorial Day activities in Greenville begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday with the AMVETS Post 140 flag-changing ceremony at the Bond County Veterans Memorial on the courthouse lawn. The annual Memorial Day observance at Montrose Cemetery will begin at 10:00 a.m. Greenville College President Dr. Ivan Filby is the guest speaker. Veterans’ graves will be decorated and the Greenville Municipal Band will perform. Following the service, a brief program will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Bond County Historical Society’s Hoiles-Davis Museum to unveil the Civil War sword that has been loaned to the museum by the family of Col. John B. Reid.
