The Unit 2 School Board approved the purchase of new Math textbooks not to exceed the amount of $151,937 at their Monday night meeting. The new textbooks will be geared more toward the Common Core teaching than the previous books.
John Goldsmith requested the use of the GES grounds and the Jr. High parking lot for the Lem Rhodes Cancer Foundation celebration of the Life Festival on Saturday, September 13. The board approved the request.
After coming out of executive session the board approved the retirement of Sorento School Principal Bill Carpenter at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. They also approved the retirement of teacher Becky Suess at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. The board approved the hiring of Kolin Dothager as the head girls basketball coach for next year and the rehiring of coaches as listed to the board. Summer school staff was also approved.
It was announced during the financial report that the district received several payments, totaling close to $1.3 million. Superintendent Jeff Strieker told the board that many of the funds have received three out of four payments expected from the state, which is well ahead of previous year.
