Vacant Home In Sorento Burns, Officials Suspect Arson

Shoal Creek firefighters were paged to a vacant single-wide mobile home fire at 510 Main Street in Sorento at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday. Greenville firefighters arrived on scene to provide mutual aid at 3:49 a.m. Shoal Creek Fire Chief Kent Priddle told WGEL firefighters were able to extinguish the fire completely just after 7:00 a.m. but the home was a total loss. Priddle said the fire marshal’s report is still incomplete but since the home has been vacant for several years and is not hooked up to power, he feels certain the cause of the fire was arson.
