Although Greenville’s Bicentennial celebration doesn’t begin until New Year’s Eve, items commemorating the 200th birthday are now available.
Greenville Bicentennial commemorative t-shirts, sporting the event’s logo, are for sale at Watson’s Drug Store for $15 each.
The first two in a series of “friendship” baskets, which are hand-woven of hard maple, may be purchased for $60 each. A limited number of unsigned baskets featuring the Bond County Courthouse on the lid are available at Watson’s Drug Store, Bradford National Bank, and Bond County Realtors. The initial run of this basket, signed and numbered by the artist Martha Iler, sold out in a few days. The Greenville Bicentennial is also selling a basket spotlighting the late Robert Horsfall’s drawing of Greenville College’s Hogue Hall on its lid. This basket is available at the same locations with the addition of the Greenville College bookstore.
The Bicentennial fundraising committee is currently planning the next basket in the series. Other souvenir items in the works include commemorative coins and a 2015 calendar comprised of vintage photos taken by the late Dr. Daniel A. Junod.
Greenville will mark its 200th birthday in 2015 with a series of observations; the main celebration is slated for Labor Day weekend that year. For more information, visit www.greenville200.com.
