Combine Fire Near Keyesport

Keyesport firefighters responded Sunday at 4:23 p.m. to a report of a combine fire in a wheat field on the Keyesport Road west of Dudleyville Road. According to Fire Chief Jim Golder, the combine was a 5-year-old New Holland and the fire started in the screen area where several belts are located.

The combine was a total loss but the header may still be usable. A neighbor chisel plowed an area around the burning combine so the fire did not spread to the rest of the wheat field. Greenville Firefighters provided mutual aid with a brush truck and manpower. No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene about 2.5 hours.
