Salem Native Recognized By US Navy

Lt. Cmdr. Emily J. Sprague, MSC, USN (right) accepts the Junior Optometrist of the Year Award from Armed Forces Optometric Society Awards Chair, Dr. Carla Engelke.

The United State Navy has recognized a Salem native as the Navy’s Junior Optometrist of the Year.

Lieutenant Commander Emily J. Sprague is the Optometrist for the U.S. Naval Hospital in Guantanamo Bay.   Lieutenant Commander Sprague graduated from Salem Community High School in 1997 and graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 2004.

Sprague was named Southern College of Optometry’s Young Alumnus of the Year in October 2013 and was named the Armed Forces Optometric Society Junior Optometrist of the Year for 2013.

Sprague has served in the Navy 13 years.
