Authorities Search For Semi After Fatal Accident Near Troy

Authorities are searching for a semi that left the scene of an accident that claimed the life of a Brighton man Wednesday morning.

At around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, police say a car driven by 20-year-old Jacob L. Dey swerved onto the right shoulder of westbound I-70 near Troy. Dey overcorrected and hit the big rig, which kept going. The car spun out of control and was hit by a second semi and came to rest on the right side of the interstate. The semi overturned in a ditch.

Dey was pronounced dead at the scene. The Madison County Coroner’s Office reports that Dey was wearing his seatbelt and airbags did deploy. Troopers say Dey may have fallen asleep after working the overnight shift at a fast food restaurant.

The driver of the second semi involved in the accident walked away uninjured.

Police say the semi that left the scene probably has front end damage.
