State officials report the corn crop in Illinois is headed for a record year. Bond and Fayette County Farm Bureau Manager Stephanie Kraus told WGEL the local crops are on track with the rest of the state.
“Crops are looking really good in the Bond County area,” Kraus said. “We had an early planting season. It seems like everybody got their crops in in a fairly decent manner. We have had a quite a bit of rain this summer and cooler temperatures help keep the soil from drying out.”
Kraus said due to the early planting season, Bond County farmers may begin harvesting corn as early as late August.
