Chamber Hosts Final Old Fashioned Friday, Talks Gazebo

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce held their last Old Fashioned Friday of the season Friday, July 25.

“It was a beautiful 75-degree Friday afternoon in July; that’s almost unbelievable, isn’t it? We’ve had a nice turnout again for Old Fashioned Friday, sponsored by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce,” Chamber Executive Director John Goldsmith told WGEL. “Lots of kids and moms and families came out and we had a good time. Again this week we had great help from our Miss Bond County and Junior Miss Contestants, a great group of young ladies. Unfortunately we were only able to do it for two Fridays this year, so this was our final one, but I hope next year we’ll be able to expand on that and have even more.”

The last time we spoke with Goldsmith, at the July 18 Old Fashioned Friday, he had mentioned that he was hoping to have the new gazebo on the courthouse lawn up in time for the final Old Fashioned Friday. That goal was met, with some minor work still to go.

“The basic structure of the gazebo is up,” Goldsmith told us. “The only thing left to do is the shingling and the attachment of the cupola to the top of it. We are working on getting that part of the project complete. Hopefully within the next week or so the project will be 100 percent complete.”
