Small Plane Crashes Near Pierron

Highland-Pierron Firefighters, Highland EMS, and a Bond County Sheriff’s Deputy responded Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. to a report of a plane crash near Pierron.  According to Fire Chief Steve Plocher, Kevin Dawkins, age 60, of Mobile, Alabama, built the plane and was taking it for its maiden flight.  Plocher said he saw the plane take off near Pierron.

When Dawkins tried to land on a landing strip next to the park in Pierron, the plane crashed on the runway. Witnesses reported seeing the plane roll several times. Highland EMS took Dawkins to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland with minor injuries. No one on the ground was injured and the plane was heavily damaged.
