Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White reminds motorists celebrating Independence Day to not drink and drive this Fourth of July holiday weekend.
According to White, six of the 18 deaths during the 2013 4th of July holiday in Illinois were alcohol-related. In 2012, two of four deaths were alcohol-related. Eighty-six percent of all drivers arrested for DUI that year were first-time offenders.
White suggests if you participate in celebrations involving alcohol, take public transportation, a cab, or designate a sober driver.
