The Hills Fort Society welcomed some special visitors last week.

“There is a committee taking a US flag around the country to different events, schools, programs, and official sites,” said Bill Johnson, a Hills Fort re-enactor and member of the Hills Fort Society. “The idea is to fly this flag at as many events as possible. Then it will be presented to a new ship that will be commissioned in October called the U.S.S. America.
“They wanted an 1812 venue and our fort and program fit that bill. They brought the flag and we flew it over Hills Fort, fired a salute, and felt very fortunate to be involved.”
The Hills Fort replica is located on the grounds of the American Farm Heritage Museum, just south of Greenville.
