GRH Offers Support At County Board Meeting

Representatives of Greenville Regional Hospital attended the Bond County Board meeting this week and talked with board members about the current error in assessed valuation that is creating a shortfall in tax distribution to 13 governing bodies in Bond County.

The $524,352 shortfall is due to property taxes being assessed for Greenville Regional Hospital, a tax-exempt organization.

“We were invited to attend, so we wanted to show our support for the county and the process that they’re stepping through,” Nall told us. “The hospital facility, the structure itself, has always been a non-profit property and therefore is not subject to property taxes. We understand the county has a process for reporting values to the state. That’s not under our control, but we’ll do whatever we can to cooperate with the county leaders as they work to resolve this matter.”

During the meeting, Bond County Board Chairman Howard Elmore said there had been no new developments in the tax issue facing the county.
