Lem Rhodes Cancer Foundation Sponsoring First Festival

The Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation will host its first Celebration of Life Festival on Saturday, September 13 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. on the Greenville Elementary School playground. The Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation provides assistance to local cancer patients for items such as medical bills not covered by insurance, assistance with lodging and travel for treatment, and other necessary items.

The Celebration of Life Festival offers food, games, bounce houses, face painting, and entertainment in a family atmosphere. The theme for the event is “There’s no place like a home.” In keeping with the Wizard of Oz theme a Dorothy Look-a-like Contest will be held with two age divisions, 12 and under and 13 and older. The Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow will pose for photos. Some limited seating will be available; those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Live entertainment includes Fusion Dance Center, Pete the Juggler, and the Chapman Brothers Band. A program with guest speakers, recognition of cancer survivors, and special music by members of the Greenville Junior High chorus begins at 9:00 p.m. and concludes with a luminary ceremony.

Attendees are asked to bring a photo of a loved one whose fight against cancer has ended. These will be displayed on a special “memory board”.
