South Central FS Thanks Firefighters, Updates Progress

Firefighters battle the blaze Saturday at South Central FS

South Central FS continues to deal with a major fire that did hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to their Greenville facility Saturday. Roger Marcoot, with South Central FS, told WGEL they are very appreciative of the local fire departments.

“I want to thank the fire departments that were there,” Marcoot told us. “They were great. We had a little rekindling on Monday and they were there and took care of things. We definitely want to thank them.

“I know there are rumors out there that it could be arson. They’ve had two investigators in and they’ve completely ruled out arson. It was an accidental fire. The exact cause can’t be determined, but it was accidental.”

Marcoot also emphasized that even though the fire was a setback, South Central FS is still serving customers.

“That’s our number one priority is taking care of our customers. It always has been. We’re a cooperative and we believe in taking care of customers. We’re doing everything we can to restock our inventory. We’ve moved our offices temporarily so we can take care of customers. We have most inventory on-hand and if there’s something we don’t have, we can get it in a day’s time.”

The fire Saturday started around 12:30 p.m. in a corner of the South Central FS storage facility, damaging much of the animal feed on-site. The damage estimate to the building and contents was $375,000.
