Edwardsville Man Killed In Accident North Of Grantfork

An Edwardsville man was killed in an accident on Illinois Rt. 160 north of Grantfork Saturday morning.

According to the Illinois State Police, a 51 year old male from Edwardsville was northbound on 160 at Frey Road at 11:55 a.m. Saturday. A Chevrolet farm grain truck driven by a 40 year old man from Highland was directly in front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the truck told police he turned on his left turn signal and began to slow down to turn left onto Frey Road. The truck driver and a witness both told authorities that the motorcyclist attempted to pass the truck on the left side of the roadway as the truck began to turn left. The motorcyclist then abandoned the overtake, moving again behind the truck. The motorcycle driver lost control, overturned, skidded, and struck the rear of the truck.

The driver was ejected from the motorcycle. The Highland man driving the truck did not require medical attention at the scene. The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at 12:35 pm at a Highland area hospital.

Names have not yet been released on those involved in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
