This is National Farm Safety Week and harvest is underway, which means more farm implements on roadways throughout the area.
Stephanie Kraus, Farm Bureau Manager in Bond and Fayette Counties, offered some safety tips for motorists to keep in mind this time of year.
“It’s just kind of important to slow down and be cautious,” said Kraus. “The thing to remember is the speed limit may be 55, but they’re only going 15-20 miles per hour, so it’s a lot slower than what the cars are going.
“It’s also important to remember that they’re not out there just because it’s fun. They’re out there to get from field to field. So, don’t get angry with them if you are stuck behind them. Just like everybody else, they’re just trying to do their job.
“If you’re in a no passing zone, that’s what it is; it’s a no passing zone. Don’t try to go around them. That’s why it’s there; you can’t see what’s coming up ahead of you. You don’t want to be surprised with anything coming around a curve or over a hill.”
