The Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation held their annual meeting Monday night and awarded nearly $8,000 in grants to teachers in the district.
Grants ranged from $94 to $1,000 and will fund classroom projects including new books, literacy kits for parents, materials for science fairs, puzzles and blocks, an electric keyboard, an air compressor, and an Egyptian mummy excavation kit, among several others.
Unit 2 Superintendent Jeff Strieker expressed his thanks to the Academic Foundation for their support. Unit 2 second graders performed a holiday themed music program directed by Kim Lugge. The foundation paid tribute to Fred Baumberger, one of the founding members of the Academic Foundation, who passed away this year.
Board members were elected to the Academic Foundation Board of Directors. Lester Harnetiaux, Valerie Klenke, Ryan Mifflin, Don Reed, Chance Vohlken, Laura Wall, Katie Weiss, and Greg Zykan were elected for the 2014-2015 year. Officers elected to serve for the 2014-2015 year include Don Dillon, president; Lester Harnetiaux, vice president; Valerie Klenke, secretary; and Brant Frey, treasurer.
