Celebrate Halloween Safely With Free Kit From Southwestern Electric Cooperative

It’s the time of year little ghosts and goblins haunt area neighborhoods looking for treats. It’s also National Cooperative Month. From now through Halloween (or while supplies last), Southwestern Electric is offering free trick-or-treat bags and glow sticks to children 12 and under.

“Our glow sticks and recyclable treat bags are a great way to heighten your child’s visibility during trick-or-treat hours,” said Susan File, the cooperative’s vice president of member services.

Halloween safety isn’t just for trick-or-treaters, File said. “Keep safety in mind when you’re decorating. Don’t overload electrical outlets with holiday lighting and always keep jack o’ lanterns and hot electric lamps away from drapes, decorations, flammable materials or areas where children will be standing or walking,” said File. “Greet trick-or-treaters with your porch lights and other exterior lights on. And if you’re in a heavy-traffic area, patrol your street occasionally to discourage speeding motorists, acts of malicious mischief and crimes against children,” File advised. “If you spot something that seems suspicious, report it to the police immediately.”
